IMPORTANT INFORMATION
School Hours:
School will officially begin at 8:30 a.m. If your child enters the room after this time, he or she will be considered tardy. We will begin dismissal at 3:00 p.m.
Transportation:
Please keep me updated throughout the year on any transportation changes that may occur. If your child has any change, please send a note or call the school. I may not have time or access to the internet, so email is not a good source of communication for this matter. Students are required to have a tag on their backpack to show how they get home.
If lost, contact me or the office.
Weekly Folders:
I will be sending green "Friday" folders home at the end of each week. Please be sure to look over any informative papers. Return the folder on Monday.
Parent/Student Journal:
Your child will be writing to you each week about things they have learned, and activities they've participated in from the week. They will come home on Fridays along with Friday Folders. Please be sure to write back to your child on the next page over the weekend. They love hearing from you! Also don't forget, they can't read cursive just yet, so please use your best print so they can read your notes.
Grading Procedures
Wake County Standard Based Grading
Level 4: Since I can do/get this, I can figure out new things! (Going Beyond the expectations)
Level 3: I get it and can use it.
Level 2: I almost get it but I need support.
Level 1: I don’t get it yet. I need a lot of support.
Classroom Grading
Based on Wake County Standards
4,3,2,1- Work has been recorded as a grade
"Checked by Me" shows that the assignment was reviewed with the whole class and each student is responsible for making corrections.
"P" shows that this was a practiced skill and completed with the whole class or with support. The skill should continue to be practiced.
---Homework will not be graded as it is considered practice work
Lunch:
If you plan on having your child buy a lunch, please keep the account updated. In my experience, second graders get very upset when they do not have lunch money. Borrowing from the PTA is allowed no more than 4 times per year.
Birthdays and Special Events:
Please notify me before bringing in a special class treat at lunch. All items must be store bought. Homemade foods may not be served to the class.
Snack: Please send in a healthy snack for your child. Cookies, cakes, and other sugary foods do not provide the brain boost we are looking for!
Volunteers:
Please make sure that you have completed your volunteer clearance through Wake County. Parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed at Sycamore Creek Elementary. Protecting the instructional periods of the day is also a priority for our school. Please refrain from popping into your child's classroom during the school day without prior arrangements. We ask that you help us ensure the instructional day is protected and not interrupted so we can provide the best education for your child.
